Design Theory - Group Presentation - Leon Battista Alberti, early Renaissance: Humanism

LEON BATTISTA ALBERTI

Leon Battista Alberti was born in Genoa in 1404.
The first theorist of Humanist art, Alberti belonged to an important Florentine family that had been exiled from Florence since 1387. When the family returned to the city in 1429, Alberti gained access to the city's architecture and art which he studied extensively.

Design Theory, assignment 1 part 2

My project is a Treatment Centre for people with the skin disease, "Eczema".

The Client is a team of dermatologists that wants to make their own clinic/treatment centre, to help people with skin problems, as; Eczema. A lot of people are suffering from Eczema and they do not know how to treat it and live with it. The treatment Centre will have treatments that can help the patient. A treatment can be for only one day, but also up to 2 weeks time (depending on how ill the patient is). The client wants a building that can fit all their needs.
The centre will be for people from 16 years +.

Problem: It is not many treatment centres like this in Ireland. Most of them are placed in hospitals and the clinics are very small. In this treatment centre it is only for people with Eczema and will be a place where they can meet up and talk about the disease and get treatments.
The interior in the building will be based on allergic friendly materials. The centre must be hygienic, innovative, functional and also surrounded with an relaxing environment where the patients can feel comfortable and relaxed.

The concept for my design will have a taste of the "tropical rain forest". - A relaxing atmosphere - water falls, relaxing environment.

The treatment centre will be based on:

1)A Clinic with a reception, treatments room (photo-therapy, bath treatments, patch testing ect), Dermatology clinic and consultation rooms.
2)An Accommodation with room for the patients, room for the visitor/parents and activity rooms.
3)A Restaurant/Cafe - A place for the patients and the visitors to have a better (healthy) dinner and stay social.

Other things that will be needed:

Reception
Restaurant/cafe
Gym
Clinic rooms
Bedrooms/accommodations
Canteen
Playroom
Activities/hobbyroom
Tv/Cinema room
Offices
Meeting rooms
Acupuncture room
Photo-therapy treatment room
Bath treatment room
Consultation room
Allergy test room
Bathrooms
Library
Pharmacy
Locker room
Laundry
Relaxing/stress-down rooms
Massage room

The environment today is not the way it was before (50 years back in time). A lot of new materials with chemicals and all the "unnatural" that is made today, make us human more sick and gives us more allergies. To design a healthy environment and prevent less allergy would be a good inspiration for everybody.
